After more than a year in hiatus, one of my favorite singer/songwriter finally released a new song, titled Sakura Nagashi. And the music video is made available online via Utada’s Youtube channel since Friday night.
I really liked the song with the constant reminder that “everyone finds love in the end”. Utada Hikaru for this song used also more maturity than normal, making it sound like a loving message from an elder sister I never had, giving it a bit of a personal touch.
Not to mention, she not only kept her style but also improved it with better control and falsetto. Thou the song did start off a bit slow with a late pickup.
Information about the Music video is also released, written within the video description in Japanese and English. The MV is directed by Cannes International Film Festival Grand Prix winner Naomi Kawase, with a concept of Motherhood, with most of the scenes shot behind a window of a hospital.
Sakura Nagashi is also the theme song of for the upcoming animated movie, Evangelion 3.0 “Q”, due out in theaters on the 17th of November 2012, today~
For more information you can also visit this song’s website, http://www.sakuranagashi.jp/top_e.php, which is available in English and Japanese. It contains many goodies about the song even.
Below is the full description as written in the youtube page,
Utada Hikaru wrote the new theme song for movie Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, which was released on November 17, 2012.
The music clip was directed by Cannes International Film Festival Grand Prix winner Naomi Kawase. The clip expresses the concept of “motherhood” in a universal light, using beautiful sceneries of Japan. Kawase says, “Because we live in a time such as this, I wanted to incorporate the message of ‘the need to value the things that are presently and immediately around us and can be touched.'” This is a collaborative film for which Utada and Kawase met and exchanged ideas many times in the process of creating it.
