I know it is very slow of me to post this, given my track record of posting these up the moment I received them. But sadly, work commitments say otherwise. Ohh well, at least this post do made it to daylight.

First up, SCANDAL’s cover mini-album, 「R-GIRL’s ROCK!」which was released a few weeks back. This mini album containing cover of popular songs in the 1980s-2000s which also includes ZONE’s hit song, 「secret base~君がくれたもの~」which was released by SCANDAL back in April as a digital single.

Instead of the standard photo shoot for a cover, they have instead used illustrations and they looked kawaii as well!

Even the disc is in full glory of pink.

First Press special, mini photo booklet.

Features some behind the scenes and tour photos. Quite a little but eye candy filled goodie.

So, what songs have the girls covered?

1. 六本木心中 (Roppongi Shinju by Ann Lewis)
2. 恋人がサンタクロース (Koibito ga Santa Claus by Matsutoya Yumi)
4. ロックンロール・ウィドウ (Rock ‘n’ Roll Widow by Yamaguchi Momoe)
6. Sunny Day Sunday (Sunny Day Sunday by Sentimental Bus)
7. secret base~君がくれたもの~ (secret base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~ by ZONE)

To be honest, I have yet listened to the original myself, but for the covers SCANDAL made, they added a more modern touch to it and importantly, rather than just cover for the sake of cover; the girls added some extra feel, as though the songs were originally sang by them. And yes, I have friends that have been looping this mini album ever since they got it. Even myself included.

All the songs are worthwhile listening to, but personally, I will pick 「secret base~君がくれたもの~」, 「六本木心中」& 「Sunny Day Sunday」. For 「secret base~君がくれたもの~」, needless to say, fantastic song first sang by ZONE, and SCANDAL, in my opinion, added their own flavor to the song, there is some difference between this song sang by these 2 bands and both uniquely wonderful. 「Sunny Day Sunday」, basically, very cheerful and want to start a day feeling genki? Play this first thing when you wake up, best part of it all? Rina fans will loop it more than what Kyoani did with Endless Eight. She sang quite a share in this song! How often do we get to hear Rina sing? Her kawaii vocals is sure making one’s day great!

Following that, Christmas has come early in the form of Macross F concept album 「Cosmic Cuune」. Not sure if there are others out there, but for me, its a first, a Christmas album from Macross F cast!

Cosmic Cuune!

As usual, this album is mainly written by Yoko Kanno, who has written and composed the songs, OSTs for the Macross F TV series and movie. Both May’n and Megumi Nakajima resumed their singing roles as Sheryl and Ranka for this Christmas themed album.

Gorgeous illustration of Sheryl & Ranka, all ready for the festive season!

The main song will be 「Merry Christmas without You」sang by the cast of Macross F, which means, not only May’n & Megumi will be singing, you will get to hear Alto, Michal, Klan and Bobby-chan having a part for this song!

Overall this album is more slow paced, compared to the previous releases by May’n & Megumi on the OSTs, mini-albums, giving it a more festive feel.

Not yet to get a Christmas album? Then what are you waiting for? Grab a copy and enjoy Christmas early!

First press special? B3 poster promo poster!

SCANDAL’s 「R-GIRL’S ROCK」 & Macross F concept album 「Cosmic Cuune」 is now available on cdjapan.
